In case you missed it, Sir Mix-A-Lot called into NPR’s hilarious (seriously, hilarious!) show, Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me on Saturday, April 17.
It all started with a discussion of the Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee hearing looking into WAMU executive retreats. Sounds dry, right? Well, on one Hawaiian retreat, these clever banking executives (perhaps fueled by Mai Tai’s) performed a version of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back – but swapped out the lyrics. You know the original:
“I like big butts and I cannot lie, all the other brothers can’t deny, when a girl walks in…”
Well, here’s what the WAMU rap turned out to be – and was discussed at the Senate hearing:
“I like big bucks and I cannot lie/You mortgage brothers can’t deny
That when the dough roles in like you’re printin’ your own cash
And you gotta make a splash
You just spends
Like it never ends
Cuz you gotta have that big new Benz
All of that bling you’re wearin’
Shining so bright peoples starin’
It’s crazy, I gotta ski Aspen
That’s all I’m askin'”
OK, that’s sorta funny. Where it really gets good is when Sir Mix-A-Lot calls into the show. He’s got a great sense of humor and had me laughing out loud as I drove. Yes – it was that good. Check out the transcript and clip of the show – Sir Mix-A-Lot comes on around minute 2:15!
