Unless you live in a little dark cranny with no TV or internet access, you’ve heard and commented to friends about the Sandra Bullock/Jesse James drama. We’ve all made it our own business:
“I can’t believe him, he seemed so doting.”
“She’s going to file for divorce, for sure. If she doesn’t, I’ll have no respect for her.”
“Ewww, did you see that woman’s tattoos?”
But, like many, I’ve been impressed by Sandra Bullock’s noticeably invisible presence during the period since she won an Oscar. Wherever she has been and whatever she’s been doing, good for her.
Now comes news that she and Jesse had been in the process of adopting a little boy from New Orleans. And, People magazine is breaking that story, along with one of the first sanctioned photos of Sandra since “the incident.”
Let’s fawn over Sandra and her adorable baby boy and rejoice that she’s clearly happy.
I manage crises all the time in my job and handle communications challenges on a daily basis. Sandra Bullock has done this perfectly. With bad PR, after bad PR, after bad PR, she didn’t comment at all and then arranged for this announcement. It’s brilliant.
Now I hope the world will allow her and her happy baby to enjoy life and savor every moment. What we’ll look back on is that blip of a scandal on the radar, sandwiched in between an Oscar win and an adoption/metamorphosis.
